ALLY OR NEOCOLONIALIST? RUSSIA S INVOLVEMENT IN AFRICA 2.0

In recent years, Russia is camouflaging as anti-colonial power battling against neo-colonial tendencies of the western presence and influence in Africa and presenting itself as an alternative option. After establishing its presence and influence, Russia is stepping in as new neo-colonial power and participating in what is termed as “the scramble for resources” in Africa. Little is known on the neo-colonial practice of Russia involvement in Africa and its impacts. This paper assessed the implication of neo-colonial practice of Russia investment in Africa focusing on CAR. To achieved this, the article examined the Russia’s geo-political and economic interests in Africa generally and CAR specifically. Qualitative method based on survey design was employed. Data were collected using interview with 20 participants selected using purposive sampling and analysed using thematic analysis. The study concluded that neo-colonial practice of Russia involvement in Africa, emphasizing on military, political, and economic engagement. This article contributes to the ongoing debate and also bridge gaps of the existing literature on neo-colonial practices in Africa and delivering new insight by exploring neo-colonial practice of Russia involvement in Africa. |
