The Concept of Sufi Truth in Al-Qushayri s Exegesis: A Study in Lata if al-Isharat
This research aims to uncover the profound meanings of the truths embedded by Imam al-Qushayri in his exegesis "Lata'if al-Isharat", through what he called lata’if—spiritual flashes and intuitive indications that open doors to heartfelt understanding of the texts, and constitute a central element in Sufi education.
The study explores the concept of "truth" (haqiqa) both linguistically and within the Sufi terminological framework, and examines the connection between the two. It then focuses on key models presented by al-Qushayri in his interpretation to demonstrate how he employed these truths in the service of spiritual meanings—such as deepening vigilance (muraqaba), fostering humility, and cultivating sincere devotion to AllahAlmighty.
The research concludes that the truths conveyed through the lata’if in al-Qushayri's work are not merely symbolic reflections, but rather pedagogical tools that contribute to inner refinement, purification of the soul, and guiding the seeker on the path of closeness to Allah—through a method that blends intuitive illumination with scholarly discipline.
