THE FEDERAL CHARACTER PRINCIPLE AND EQUAL APPOINTMENT OPPORTUNITY IN MINISTRIES AND AGENCIES OF GOVERNMENT IN NIGERIA FROM 2011-2025.

Abstract

This study examines the Federal Character Principle enhance equal appointment opportunity in ministries and agencies of government in Nigeria from 2011-2022. The study is anchored on the assumptions of Institutional Corruption theory. Time-series research design was adopted for this study. Documentary method of data collection was employed as well as content method of data analysis was also used. In order to address the first research question the study found that implementation of the Federal Character Principle did not enhance equal appointment opportunity in ministries and agencies of government in Nigeria. This study recommends that the Nationalism in Nigeria should no longer be conceived and directed as a right of the privileged in the society or else it will not be able to translate the diffuse and unorganized sentiments into a spirit of citizenship. To integrate the society, there should be national arrangement, informed by the popular will. Such arrangement will stimulate national cohesion and self reliance. Secondly, Federal Character Commission It has failed to redress the imbalance in structure and ethnic domination in distribution of government policies and reforms due to overwhelming influence of the executive; Therefore study recommends that constitution should be amended to grant autonomy.
