Strategic Positioning and Competitive Advantage of Manufacturing Firms in South-South Nigeria

Abstract

This study investigates strategic positioning impact on competitive advantage of manufacturing firms in South-South Nigeria. The study used a survey research design. The population was made up of managerial staff from six selected manufacturing firms. The sample size was 186 participants. The data was analysed using multiple linear regression at a 5% significance level. To validate the instrument and establish the link between the research variables, construct validity was performed. Findings revealed positive and significant impacts: cost leadership increased market share, while quality focus improved brand reputation. The study concluded that strategic positioning, through cost leadership and quality focus, plays a central role in strengthening the market share, customer retention, brand reputation, and customer loyalty of manufacturing firms in South-South Nigeria. Recommendations urged manufacturing firms to focus on cost leadership, and quality focus to strengthen firms’ competitive advantage.
