COMPARATIVE STUDY ON BEHAVIOR OF HOT ROLLED STEEL OVER COLD FORMED STEEL

. Sumit Shah1, S. Saranya2, P.Ashokkumar3, Dr. K. Jagadeesan4

Abstract

In steel structure,, there are mainly two primary forms of steel: cold formed steel and hot-rolled steel. Hot rolled steel members are formed at higher temperature while cold formed steel are formed at room temperature. Cold formed steel have relatively higher width to thickness ratio hence they are more susceptible to various buckling modes at below yield stress than the hot rolled sections. Hence the popularity of cold formed steel has been increased dramatically specially in south Asian countries. In this research paper numerical analysis and experimental analysis were carried out for truss element made of cold formed and hot rolled steel to study the behavior of both types of steel. STAAD software was used for the analysis purpose.
